Bone Yard Bash Raises Cash for Dog Park

At the Bone Yard Bash Saturday night, dog park supporters gathered  in front of the library to raise money to furnish the new amenity.

Earlier this month the city chose a construction company to build the six-acre dog park, which will cost about $1 million.

The Kershaw Gardens event cost $30 per ticket and about 150 tickets were sold.

Assistant City Manager Keith Rattay said all the money raised from the event would go to chairs, benches and other furnishings for the park, including shade structures, more water fountains and more doggie bags.

There will be a Canine Walk of Fame made up of pavers sold for $100 apiece according to Rattay.

The fundraiser included a silent auction, food from The Meat House, candy from Sensational Sweets, desserts from Nothing Bundt Cakes, and a musical performance by jazz singer Teryn Carter.

"This is going to be the greatest dog park in the world. We are going to have all the amenities one would want for their animal," City Councilman Dave Leckness said. "Not only is it a dog park, it's a people park, a park for families and that's what Mission Viejo is about."

The dog park site is located south of Gilleran park on the east side of Felipe Road.
