School Districts, Why Have Two?

Two school districts in one city. I don't get it.

Mission Viejo is a great city to live in. I have been here for about 13-14 years.

My children go to schools in the Capistrano Valley Unified School District. I never understood why this "well-planned community" has two school districts. I do not know why we can't just be a united city with one school district. Don't we have enough citizens?

I understand there is a lot of paperwork and politics involved in changing something that has been in existence for awhile, but I think it is time to question the way things are done. Time to think outside of the box. What does it take to change this?

I once asked a mayor of the city about this, and I got the typical politically correct answer. You know the one: "Blah, blah, blah..."

Think about it. Is it right for me to commute on the highway to get to a high school that is off of Avery Parkway when there is a high school down the block from their middle school on La Paz? Time is a valuable thing, and we lose so much of it by commuting to the high school that is further. Not to mention the price of fuel.

What do you think? Is it time for Mission Viejo to start its own school district?
