Shri, I think the Sheriff's Department didn't have enough information to call the teen a suspectRead More when he was taken in for questioning.
Linda Roth May 22, 2013 at 10:27 pm
Does anyone know why helicopters and police were atbake and jeronimo around 6:00 pm?
Shripathi Kamath May 22, 2013 at 09:54 pm
How can a 'person of interest' who has been arrested, not called a 'suspect'?
Nic Cendoya is eligible for a drug diversion program, and if he is accepted and completes the requirements, he will not have a conviction his record, according to attorneys.

Are you kidding me. The guy voluntarily helped in the search. He was never asked by any officialRead More agency to help. He said he had hiked the are many times. He knew the risks. He new of the rumors about drug use by the lost hikers, but still chose to volunteer and help with the search. He needs to accept responsibility for the medical bills. Spitzer, is grandstanding, and I find it scary, that he trying to make NEW laws so that he can GO BACK and try and go after these young adults. It looks like he may be trying to save face, because the OCSD dropped the ball, and failed to collect or present enough evidence in the first place, showing that drugs were the reason the hikers got lost in the first place. SORRY Spitzer, you can't have it both ways.

All girls should be taught how to use and carry mace or at least a loud blaring sound device whenRead More pulled. Karate is also another option. Kick the bleep out of the guy and ask questions later. Don't be nice and non-violent girls, it isn't worth it

Aliso Viejo and its surrounding cities all made the 100 safest cities in America list that you canRead More check out here: http://www.neighborhoodscout.com/neighborhoods/crime-rates/top100safest/ This makes Aliso Viejo one of the safest places in the world - literally.
Aliso Watchdog May 20, 2013 at 11:06 pm
Aliso Viejo is one of the top 100 safest cities in the country, and a beautiful community. ThisRead More incident is not representative of what happens here, except for the fact that the perpetrator was captured.

Hey Pete, did you get laid off? It has been over an hour since Orange PD annnounced the findings ofRead More this body, you story is very stale. Maybe the comment below describes the whole picture.. AOL’s Patch Gets New CEO, as Just Under Three Percent of Staff Is Laid Off in Consolidation

Thanks for the info. I heard the helicopters flying around at 5AM and the Sheriff dept would not sayRead More what the situation was. I did make sure the doors were all locked and the dogs were in the backyard!
Julie Flores May 17, 2013 at 02:59 pm
I live right off of La Barca and we locked all of our doors as soon as we heard the helicoptersRead More circling. I told my kids the sound of the helicopter means someone is running around close by who is upmo no good.

Shri, We should probably quit poking the animals. They are, after all, caged behind bars in zoosRead More of their own making...

"His mama was white but you with Avery are a pair to draw to...." - Bobo See, that is howRead More Bobos of the world try to convince others that they consider their irrational hatred of the black skinned guy in the WH is something else.
Dan Avery May 22, 2013 at 01:17 pm
Double down now, Joe. Please. Let's see who you really are...oh wait, I forgot, you're a cowardRead More hiding behind an alias so you don't have to take responsibility for the vileness that flows from you like the Mississippi River after the spring melt.

First he hasn't been convicted. Second we have no way of knowing if he or they were actuallyRead More taking anything or not at the time. 3rd its a very small amount -- it was in his car. They still have to prove how it got there & that it was his Lastly -- I'll reiterate this search cost more because searchers looked in the wrong area. The teens were exactly where they said they were. The fact it got so expensive is not all their fault no matter what. I still feel this is an attempt to divert attention from looking bad for that & preempting a lawsuit as they both almost died. Oh yeah -- and publicity too ... Spritzer called a press conference on it from his home. If they want to save money get rod of the rediculous waste in the county & judges who are taking bribes & trading sex for jobs. Yup -- that is under investigation now & that judge is still hearing cases

These kids don't have two cents to rub together anyway. I'm imaging this cause and effect scenario:Read More While getting "Saddleback Mountain High" on meth, they dropped their smoking pipe to the ground in search of more interesting things like happy butterflies to ride and delicious dry top soil to chew on. Seconds later, a massive conflagration ignites and spreads to burn down Cook's Corner, local homes, campings sites and stables. Good thing that didn't happen, but just imagine the outrage and calls for reimbursement...
Shripathi Kamath May 14, 2013 at 09:09 pm
Where's the fanfare surrounding this man's heroism (?) like what was all the buzz when the twoRead More hikers were extracted a few weeks ago?
Mateo May 12, 2013 at 12:34 am
M, Yup. Crime is down but it's still a battle in my neighborhood. Reporting every little thing doesRead More seem to help.

Parents have a responsibility to supervise their children - that's part of the job. Growing up inRead More Southern California we always had the rule when the streetlights came on we had to be home or else. If we whined there was nothing to do we were assigned chores which we did for free. Re some comments: It is amazing that lazy adults allow children to set the rules.
M May 11, 2013 at 12:36 pm
Legally parents can be fined or jailed up to six months. Sounds like no consequences here forRead More breaking the curfew law.
No name... May 12, 2013 at 03:24 am
Scum bags... All but one of them. I can't believe they are getting away with just 6 months. What aRead More shame. Will they will never learn fucking losers.
Dan Avery May 11, 2013 at 04:42 pm
Typical. These guys will go to prison but the Wall Street Thugs who got insanely rich selling offRead More bad loans as investments kept their jobs and are currently still getting insanely more rich.

Who deposits $3500-$4600 into someone elses bank account without doing at least some research first?Read More The stupid people who handed over their money without checking references should be held accountable too. No wonder they were underwater on their loans. On second thought, can I get their names???
Marc Loopesko May 11, 2013 at 04:55 pm
it seems that these people, the way that they were fighting over the money, would have not calledRead More the police unless they knew about the reward money..... sad statement about society these days
Eric Bergstrom May 10, 2013 at 10:16 pm

Condolences to the Martinez family and her friends and colleagues. I hope as part of Carroll'sRead More prior, he had to sign the agreement that if a future DUI caused a death he would be tried for murder 2. This hits close to me; a friend was killed in Tustin last month by a wrong-way DUI driver in Tustin. The woman who murdered him was from RSM. A tiny bit of consolation that she was killed too; the torture will continue for the Martinez family since Carroll survived. As far as I'm concerned on your first DUI conviction your driving is permanently finished and the vehicle you were driving is scrapped. I don't mean to take away from the tragedy that has forever changed the Martinez family...rather I hope this adds to the awareness.
Martin Henderson (Editor) May 12, 2013 at 01:35 am
Patch will try to get all this stuff together for you in one story as details become more available.Read More But condensing the info for one confirmed fundraiser for the Martinez family: Bake Sale, May 18, 7 a.m., in the Trabuco Highlands complex, 38172 Joshua, 92688.

I call it stupid! I saw the kids on the bridge around 4:10 pm looking down and that is unbeviableRead More that they would waste tax payers money investigating this stunt.... Rediculious!

Sounds like a bunch of moronic kids to me. There are easier ways to get into the canyon. Trust me. IRead More have done it. Hope these kids are found and charged for the use of the helicopter!
grace kelly May 10, 2013 at 09:57 pm
Why haven't they charged him yet and if they don't start doing something race will will start to beRead More a factor here. There have been a lot of good kids that have put up with harassment from the OC Sheriff's department, for walking down the street. All of my children graduated from this school god no one this time was hurt this time. This happened at the end of April STILL NO CHARGES FILED BAIL AMOUNT.? No I think this case needs a little squeak. LA Times
Peter Schelden (Editor) May 2, 2013 at 05:26 pm
No he has not, C.M. I'm going to call the D.A. and find out whether or not he'll be charged.
Jenny Morgenstern May 2, 2013 at 05:01 pm
As most comnents have stated, this was a momenrary lapse of any sort of sense on the part of thisRead More student. He and the THREE other students who read and checked what he typed PRIOR to hitting the send button were high, drunk and/or not in a normal state of mind for a student. I'm not excusing what they did but these dumb, immature KIDS had a chemically induced lapse of judgement. One will suffer for the rest of his days because he's 18. Of course he was expelled.

I have absolutely no confidence in the school and/or disctrict administration from my ownRead More personal/past experience. Maybe someone should tell Tammy Blakely, the spokeswoman for the Saddleback Valley Unified School District that their drill at THHS failed miserably. All I can say is that if someone wants to email a bomb scare to THHS - they better send it with > 24 hours advance notice to give the administration time to read it! Our kids could have been dead by the time they reacted! I'm counting the days until my daughter is out of that school...the count is at 39 (school days) as of today!

What they're not telling you is that this girl has had several arrests for prior drug convitions.Read More She was a junky. Im sure he wasnt holding her down forcing it on her, more like she was doing anything and everything to get more! The girl lived with him, I cant see how hes considered her drug dealer, what a joke! Charging him with murder is like charging a gun dealer with murder. She made her own choices, and she was an adult. Her family wants to place blame on someone, the blame is on their daughter.
friend April 19, 2013 at 01:33 am
Oh, the 16 year old the mention in the article was another person he had been involved withRead More previously, and they are using that incident to show he had knowledge that the mixtures of drugs he was giving her could cause death.

The press release (in the photo section PDF) states she was 21. You may have seen the date (NovemberRead More 16) in the article and thought she was 16.

That's very helpful, MV MD. Thank you for the additional context. Do you think the state should makeRead More exceptions in their drug testing of licensed workers for drugs used to treat addiction such as methadone and buprenophrine?
Mission Viejo MD April 19, 2013 at 02:28 am
Buprenorphine is a medication prescribed by physicians for patients who are addicted to painRead More medications such as Vicodin, OxyContin, Norco, Demerol, and also heroin. Most people take buprenorphine anywhere from several months to several years. The fact that she was in rehab in 2009 and tested positive for buprenorphine in 2011 is not unusual. Buprenorphine is dispensed as Subutex or Suboxone.
