Dangerous Driving Tickets Down 64% in Mission Viejo

Fewer and fewer tickets are being given for dangerous driving in Mission Viejo over the last 10 years, according to county statistics.

The number of tickets for "hazardous violations" like running red lights, driving drunk and speeding has dropped from more than 10,000 in 2004 to 3,750 in 2012.

As you can see from the chart above, the number of dangerous driving tickets has steadily decreased over the past eight years.

Meanwhile the number of accidents resulting in injuries has risen over the past five years, the longest the Orange County Sheriff's Department keeps such statistics.

In 2012, the city reached a five-year high in injury auto accidents with 200. That's 35 more bad accidents than were reported in either 2008 or 2009.

So far this year 110 injury accidents have been reported.
