Architect Says Newhart's Construction Tab Totals $14.7 Mil

With Capistrano Unified facing a total of $822 million in construction needs, here's Newhart Middle School's share.

Newhart Middle School needs $14.7 million in repairs and renovations, according to a Capistrano Unified architect.

The figure includes $3.9 million in replacing half of the portable classrooms on campus with permanent buildings. It also includes $2.2 million in routine maintenance the district has deferred, such as paint, floor covering, heating and plumbing.

The district hired WLC Architects in 2009 to assess all the facilities needs across the 55-campus school district. It was recently updated for 2013 pricing. The district is facing $822 million worth of needs and only has about $44 million on hand to address them.
