Chloe Sutton Places Fourth in 800-Meter Finals

The Mission Viejo swimmer will only be appearing in the 400-meter freestyle in the London Olympics after falling behind Kathleen Ledecky's record-breaking performance Sunday.

Chloe Sutton fell two spots short of qualifying for another spot on the Olympic roster, taking fourth in the 800-meter freestyle Sunday.

The Mission Viejo resident swam 8:28.12 time in the final heat of the Olympic trials, nearly nine seconds behind first-place winner Kathleen Ledecky’s 8:19.78 performance.

The 15-year-old Ledecky broke the US Olympic trials record of 8:20.81 set by Katie Hoff four years ago.

Ledecky started the race with a burst of speed, leading by a full body length after the first 100 meters.

Despite her fast start, Ledecky showed no signs of slowing down, keeping her dominant lead throughout the race.

2008 Olympian Kate Ziegler stayed a whole length behind Ledecky but separated herself from the rest of the swimmers by nearly two lengths.

Mission Viejo Nadador Chloe Sutton was nowhere close to catching up, swimming around 31.00 to 32.51 seconds for most of the splits except for her first.

This will be Ledecky’s first time in the Olympics.

By finishing in second place, Ziegler scored her second-consecutive trip to the Olympics.
