Mission Viejo Olympian Given Key to City for Swim Lessons

After helping teach swimming to nearly 5,000 kids and adults Saturday in Palm Desert, Mission Viejo olympian Chloe Sutton was given a key to the city.

At 16, Sutton was the first swimmer to perform in both open water and pools during an olympic tournament in 2008. In 2012, she competed in the 400-meter and 800-meter races.

She seemed excited about the award on Twitter, where she made the announcement:

"I got a key to the city of Palm Desert this weekend! That's a first!"

Here's how she described the Palm Desert Swim to Win event:

Yesterday, I was blessed to be able to be a part of teaching 2,042 children in Palm Desert how to swim at the Swim to Win event! It was an amazing experience. I've never taken a child who had never swam before and given them that first experience of being in the water. They would start out clinging to me in fear and by the end, they would be smiling, blowing bubbles, and almost treading water! How cool! I can't wait to be a part of it again next year!
